CHARITY FUNDRAISING EVENT

Aims:  To raise funds in order to facilitate ongoing research carried out by the Stroke Association. Research funded by the Stroke Association has the ultimate aim of making stroke a preventable and treatable disease, and improving the quality of life for people affected by stroke.  To raise awareness of the causes of stroke and how people of all ages can be affected by it. Every year there are approximately 152,000 strokes in the UK. We aim to address misconceptions that stroke only affects older people, when in fact 31% of strokes occur in people under the age of 65.

Venue: Al Maidah, Manchester

Al Maidah is one of Manchester’s finest banqueting halls. The elegance and exquisite décor of Al Maidah will serve well as the grand venue for Purple Hope 2016.
Organiser: Kareena Alam

Kareena Alam, a primary school teacher, suffered from Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis (a blood clot in the brain) which is a rare form of stroke, in November 2014. Kareena is now on the way to making a full recovery.

Following last year’s successful Purple Hope event, which raised £12,500, Kareena will be hosting another charity fundraiser dinner, which will take place in October. In collaboration with the Stroke Association, Kareena is hosting the Purple Hope 2016 charity event with proceeds going to Stroke Association. The event has a Bollywood theme, providing a grand evening of Asian cuisine and entertainment. There will also be an auction and a raffle draw, featuring a variety of prizes on offer to win.

Guest Speakers: Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner, Mayor of Trafford MBC, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, MEP Afzal Khan, North West Regional Director for the Stroke Association.

Entertainment/ Artists: Bollywood singers Sahara, Jay Kadn & Usman Farooqi. Bollywood dancers & dhol group.
