La Famiglia.
We’ve never been to La Famiglia in Hale, we’ve driven past it and it’s always been busy, so instead of going to one of our usual hunts, we decided to venture into Hale and give this place a try! We booked in advance, just to make sure, like I said the place seems to be busy all the time so better make sure they had space for us!!
Located on 12-14 Victoria Road, in Hale, you can access the restaurant through their main door, they have a lovely outside terrace, and unfortunately you can only access this by going through the main doors and all through the restaurant. I’m guessing that in summer that terrace it’s a goddess suntrap in which to enjoy a nice glass of chilled prosecco!
You can also see all their details here, http://www.lafamigliahale.co.uk/
Table was booked for 9 o’clock, when we arrived we were shown to the bar area to have a drink while we waited for our table to be vacated/readied for us. We had to wait a while, then again, we do not mind the waiting, even less so when at no point we were ignored; let me explain! We were told when we arrived that our table was still busy, would we mind sitting at the bar and enjoy a drink, and peruse the menu while we waited, so we did, nicest thing was that the waiters kept coming to check that we were ok, offering us snacks while we waited and reassuring us; not at all what usually happens you have to admit!
While we waited we were given the menus for both food and drink, and also a little blackboard to check, with the specials of the day on it. For drinks I opted for a Birra Moretti, pint of I must add, it was a Saturday after all! And the other half opted for a bottle of Nero d'Avola, a Sicilian red wine.
After a little while at the bar we were told that our table was ready, waiter promptly carried our drinks to the table and left us with the menu again to make our final decision on food, the menu is very extensive, so it took us a good few minutes to look at it in depth; the time we had at the bar with the menu wasn’t enough! Ridiculous I know!
As a starter I opted for the Fish Cakes, my other half chose from the specials, a Goat’s cheese starter. For main courses I opted for the Tournedo Rossini and the husband for the Filetto Al Dolcelatte.
Our starters arrived promptly, mine the Fish Cakes were two medium size balls of mixed fish and potato breaded and deep fried, served with a chilli dressing. Creamy and tasty on the inside, crunchy on the outside, quite perfect! The husband’s Goat’s cheese, two rounds of Goat’s cheese served on a crouton of crusty bread with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and a chutney like sauce, looked quite tasty, unfortunately he didn’t let me taste it! Please note my sad face as I write this!
Once we finished the starter, table was quickly cleared, and fresh cutlery laid for our main courses, we ordered more drinks and waited for the main event to arrive!
My main course the Tournedo Rossini, a Fillet steak on a crouton base, topped with paté and madeira jus, was to die for, melt in the mouth steak, cooked to perfection (please note that I like my steak on the rare to blue side, getting a steak cooked to your exact liking is quite difficult this days I think!) it was absolutely delicious.
The husbands, Filetto Al Dolcelatte, a Fillet steak in a creamy blue cheese sauce; was also perfect, I personally do not like blue cheese but it did look good. Another winning dish!
As an accompaniment for the main courses we chose the Zucchini Fritte, fried courgette sticks in cornflour, the Fagiolini, french beans with olive oil and lemon and also the Patate Fritte, French fries. All of them the perfect complement for our food.
We were stuffed so we decided not to have dessert or coffee this time round. Highly recommend this place, although I would say book if you can, to ensure you have the best time! We look forward to visiting again very soon!!
