Altrincham Duck

The Ninja duck has heard many good things about The New Dilli over the years and ventured for the first time into their new premises at 21 The Downs, Altrincham after relocating from Stamford New Road.

We decided to go mid week as they have a 2 for 1 deal for Taste Card customers. There are several restaurants in the area which subscribe to Taste Card so if you're a regular restaurant customer it will save you a few quid which is always a bonus.

The restaurant is nice and cosy and the staff were very attentive.  We ordered the poppadoms which were freshly cooked and served with delicious chutney, mint and yogurt while we leisurely browsed the main menu. What I like about the New Dilli is the food isn't the standard one gravy pot fayre you find at many other Indian restaurants, this place is for the person who understands and appreciates authentic Indian cuisine.

For mains we ordered Gosht Banjara which is a lamb dish cooked in ground spices, and a Pista Padam Ki Murghi, which is a mild chicken dish cooked in almond and pistachios. We also ordered the Jeera Pillau rice with a peshwari and Aloo Kulcha Naan.

The food took approx 15 minutes to arrive which I was very happy about as nothing fills me with dread more than a curry served on your table within 5 minutes of ordering it. The food was nicely presented and the portion sizes were just enough. You could taste the fresh ingredients and spices and it was obviously cooked from scratch. The staff were polite and not constantly hovering over the table asking if everything was OK every two minutes. They left us to enjoy our food and conversation but kept a discreet eye open when our glasses were nearly empty.

In summary the quality of food is exceptional and in Mr & Mrs Ninja Ducks opinion well worth the price
