Altrincham Duck

Helping Altrincham since 2014

Last week was Mrs Ninja Ducks birthday and we both fancied heading out into Hale to La Vina for a bite to eat. We both love tapas food and we thought we'd give La Vina  a try. Neither of us had eaten there before but over the years we'd heard excellent things about the establishment from friends. We booked a table for seven pm on a weekday, and we were very impressed to see how busy it was for a Thursday night.

The bar area was quite busy with customers and we were given a seat by the window. A lovely Spanish waitress came over with the food menu and took our order. I ordered the San Miguel which was ice cold and Mrs Duck ordered a soft drink as she wasn't drinkingon this occasion.

The usual rule of thumb with Tapas is 3 to 4 dishes each which is usually sufficient, so just to air on the side of caution we ordered 4 each. Typical for this foodie duck - our eyes were bigger than the belly!

The waitresses looked like they were rushed off their feet, taking orders and bringing out food while juggling drinks as well - credit where credit is due, they did a fantastic job considering how busy it was with only three staff on hand

We ordered the food which consisted of:

Freshly baked bread, toasted with garlic and olive oil.

Spanish omelette with potatoes and Onion.

Patatas Bravas

Deep fried white fish in a San Miguel batter.

Calamares served with garlic mayo.

Serrano ham filled croquettes.

Paprika and garlic marinated pork ribs.

Pork and beef meatballs.

Our waiting time was approx 25 minutes which considering how busy they were was impressive. In typical Spanish style I just ordered another drink and watched the Flamenco dancers and listened to the traditional Spanish music. The atmosphere was fantastic.

The food arrived and the table was just about big enough to fit all our plates. The food was piping hot and it was obvious that it was freshly cooked to order. I've been to Spain a few times and the food is on a par with the traditional Spanish back street Tapas bars, in other words it was delicious.

We weren't rushed and we enjoyed our food while watching the entertainment.  The portion sizes were generous and 4 dishes each is plenty.

In this ducks opinton, an absolutely fantastic experience and well worth a visit.  The duck will be visiting again soon!
